The Challenge

Our client’s objective was to make their digital documents available to visually impaired users. The screen readers didn't quite get the abbreviation ‘U.S.’ right in initial testing; it read ‘U dot S’ instead and broke the text's flow. Key challenges included:
  • Screen Reader Misinterpretation: This abbreviation affected content clarity and accessibility.
  • Comprehension Issues: The text became so hard for users relying on assistive technologies to read that they were unable to comprehend, which impaired their learning experience.
  • Content Flow Disruption: The document’s accessibility features weren’t as effective when the words were mispronounced.

  • Our client worked together to find and explain the root cause of the misinterpretation
  • Replaced "U.S." with "US" throughout the document and recommended and implemented a change to improve readability
